Behind the Lens: Markham Dog Alliance

Four events. One ongoing connection with the local dog community.

Over the past year, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing four events with Markham Dog Alliance, from a playful wedding-themed photobooth to seasonal celebrations and breed meetups. Each event brought together a different group of dogs and dog lovers, giving me the opportunity to document not only the atmosphere of each gathering, but also the personalities and connections that make Toronto’s dog community so special.

Barkham 2025 — Dog Wedding at Markham Museum

As part of Markham Dog Alliance’s Barkham 2025, I spent the day photographing the wedding photobooth at Markham Museum, where dogs and their families came together to celebrate a very special kind of love. I even had the honour of witnessing some of the dogs “get married” and taking on the very important role of ring bearer. It was such a fun day to photograph, with every dog bringing their own personality to the celebration.

Markham Museum was also a beautiful setting for the occasion. Its historic architecture, open grounds and charming surroundings made it a wonderful backdrop for dog portraits and wedding photographs. It was easy to see why the location worked so well for such a unique event.

As a Toronto dog photographer, I loved the opportunity to approach this event a little differently from a traditional dog portrait session and document the playful atmosphere of a dog wedding at Markham Museum.

Halloween Howl 2025

Costumes, wagging tails and plenty of personality made Halloween Howl 2025 a memorable day with Markham Dog Alliance. I loved photographing the dogs as they showed off their Halloween looks, as well as the candid moments happening between them and their families.

It was a great reminder that some of the best dog photographs aren't always the perfectly posed ones. Sometimes it's the curious expression, the unexpected interaction or a little bit of chaos that captures a dog's personality best.

Willow Wonderland — Dog Breeds Meetup

Willow Wonderland brought together dogs and their people for a festive winter day filled with seasonal fun, happy pups and, best of all, snow.

With a beautiful blanket of snow creating a true winter backdrop, the event felt like a little wonderland for dogs and their families. From pups exploring the snowy grounds to dogs meeting new friends, there was no shortage of energy and personality to capture.

I loved photographing the dogs in their element, especially against the winter landscape. Snow has a way of making a dog portrait feel particularly magical, turning an ordinary winter day into something memorable.

As a Toronto dog photographer, it was a joy to document this dog-friendly winter event and see so many local dogs and their families come together with Markham Dog Alliance. Willow Wonderland was a beautiful reminder that winter can be one of the most fun seasons to enjoy with your dog.

Barkham 2026 — Dog Breeds Meetup

Barkham 2026, a yearly dog-focused event for dog owners across Markham and the Greater Toronto Area, brought together dogs and their people for a lively Dog Breeds Meetup celebrating the many breeds, personalities and connections within the local dog community.

From familiar faces to new friends, the event was filled with dogs of all shapes and sizes, making it a wonderful opportunity to capture the unique personalities that make every dog different. I loved photographing the interactions between dogs and their people, as well as the candid moments that naturally unfolded throughout the day.

A breed meetup offers so many different personalities and expressions to observe, from energetic pups ready to meet everyone to quieter dogs taking everything in at their own pace. It was a pleasure to return for another Barkham event with Markham Dog Alliance and photograph another celebration of the local dog community in 2026.
